"HavaBanana!"
Acrylic Paint on Canvas
36x36 inches
Responding to "Comedian", the 2019 artwork by Maurizio Cattelan, I felt compelled to supplant the empty space opposite the banana in the original work with the comedian Groucho Marx swinging his back leg along in comedic gait while rhythmically moving the banana up and down in his fingertips as was his sometime mannerism for handling his trademark cigar.
"Storm Over Oklahoma"
Acrylic Paint on Canvas
36x48 inches
A companion and comparative piece to "Studio in Red-Matisse at Work". This painting depicts the fictional and now complete "Storm Over Oklahoma" created in Cut-Out fashion in Matisse's studio. This is an opportunity to reflect on the powerful change to perspective that a differing color scheme can bring about.with no other changes.
"Studio in Red-Matisse at Work".
Artist as Subject Series #2, Henri Matisse.
Acrylic Paint on Canvas
48x48 inches
This piece parces together the differing creative styles of Henri Matisse and draws inspiration from the paintings "The Dessert: Harmony in Red" 1908 and "The Red Studio" 1911. Obscufated lines and edges, ambiguous room dimensions, rich deep color, application of Matisse's Cut-Out and Fauvism styles, and a nod to the artist's interest in Orientalism are all found here.
"The Search".
Acrylic Paint on Canvas
48x30 inches
A quest to refresh or clear the mind of current fixation and to connect to something more expansive, deeper, and terrestrial. Considering in this non personal space am I not nurtured, affected, and touched personally? Will this invigorate the search for that which is just a little further outside of....? Freedom, choice, exertion, bravery, association and connection. The promise of texture, smell, sound, the sight of adventure. Risk, emboldenment, The Raw Edge of "IT"?"

"The Mariachi Band Played On".
Acrylic Paint on Canvas

This painting is inspired by my exposure to the sound and dance of the Mariachi Band and the many kinds of events at which they inspire and encourage the celebratory experience. The Mariachi evoke a nostalgia and remembrance of celebrations past and to those we look forward to. The Mariachi often share in our most celebrated moments and personal times. I believe they know and understand their importance culturally and communally.

Differing forces and ideas, each with unique stages of development and encroachment, taking shape and form in our minds as the ideations of who we believe ourselves to be. All the while colliding the whole way with our acceptance, tolerance, or denial of every one of these devices as it pertains to us "personally". And yet what does our self-image finally coalesce around? The Jester, suffering or joyous? Forced, pure, or internally divided?" -Aaron Anderson

This painting is inspired by Wassily Kandinsky, particularly the idea of rigid lines crossing over, through, and around colors and abstract shapes. Hard lines over a softer subject matter. Human and Natural.
